Therapeutic indications

Ipidacrine Rompharm is indicated for the treatment of adults diagnosed with:

-       Peripheral nervous system diseases, such as neuritis, polyneuritis, polyneuropathy, polyradiculoneuropathy, myasthenia and myasthenic syndrome of various etiology;

-       Central nervous system (CNS) diseases: bulbar palsy and paresis, recovery period after organic CNS lesions with motion disorders.

Mechanism of action

The active substance in Ipidacrine Rompharm 5 mg/ml or 15 mg/ml, solution for injection, is a reversible cholinesterase inhibitor. It directly stimulates impulse transmission at CNS and neuromuscular synapses by blocking membrane potassium channels. Ipidacrine potentiates the effects of not only the mediator acetylcholine but also adrenaline, serotonin, histamine, and oxytocin on smooth muscle.

Pharmacodynamic effects

Main pharmacological effects of ipidacrine:

- restoration and stimulation of neuromuscular transmission;

- restoration of impulse transmission in the peripheral nervous system after blockade by various factors (trauma, inflammation, local anesthetics, exposure to certain antibiotics and potassium chloride, etc.);

- enhancement of smooth muscle organ contractility by all agonists except potassium chloride;

- specific moderate CNS stimulation in combination with some sedative effects;

 

- improvement of memory.
